One of the largest installs ever performed by Legend Fitness, the Athletic Performance Center at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville opened its doors in January of 2011. Available to all TTU athletes, the 10,000 sq ft TTU APC is one of the finest athletic training facilities in the nation.

Designed to meet the unique specifications of Coach Chip Pugh, the primary equipment of this facility are 22 specially modified Modular Pro Series Power Racks. For the absolute, unquestioned ultimate in strength and rigidity, all frame tubes are constructed of extra thick 7-gauge steel instead of the usual 11-gauge steel, and then further buttressed by having all the cages bolted to one another via eight-bolt struts with integrated pull-up stations. Feet for the frame sides were fashioned from thick plate steel instead of the usual tubes, the rear lower crossmember was eliminated and bar storage moved to the sides for a true walk-through design. Each cage was given a 3222 Pro Series Self-Adjusting 3-Way Bench with custom TTU wearguards, a Multi-Storage Rack (a unique combination of bumper plate rack, kettlebell rack, weight tree, and chalk bowl) and a Partner Glute/Ham Developer. Each cage was outfitted with independent dip attachments, the usual upper and lower band pegs, a bench docking system, two Olympic bars and a full complement of Troy urethane-coated dumbbells and plates with hand-laid TTU logos.

Other Legend items on the order included three Reverse Hypers and two three-tier pro style dumbbell racks. Flooring was Ultra Tile provided by ECORE with custom platform areas designated by the school’s team colors and team logo. The Legend Fitness equipment is finished in Jet Black and Purple Wave.

So, what did Coach Pugh think of his facility once Legend completed the install?

”Just like all my student athletes, I can’t believe how good it is. It’s far exceeded our expectations. The functionality of the equipment, the strength and durability of the equipment … and really it’s very ’flashy’ too. Our athletes are walking into the facility, and they’re saying, ’Coach, I know you said it was going to be nice, but I didn’t know it was going to be THIS nice.’ So, they’re going to take a lot of pride in this facility, I know they are, and it’s going to help us achieve a higher level.”
